Dr. Robert "Scott" Schmidt, "the best darn kidney specialist in my family" marched through the gates of Heaven on November 15, 2017, at the age of 61 years. Scott was the dear son of the late Robert and the late Elaine Schmidt and the best brother to Jane and Judy. He was also the beloved nephew of Marion Skelton and is further survived by special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Scott will be especially missed by his cheerleader and caregiver, Amanda Jones.

Scott attended Mother of Perpetual Grade School and Custer High School, both in Milwaukee, WI. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a degree in Pharmacology and he received his PharmD degree from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Scott then returned home to Milwaukee and attained his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He continued his career by leaving the brutal Wisconsin weather and completed his residency and fellowship in nephrology at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Education was always paramount in Scott's life, both as a student and as a remarkable teacher.

Scott leaves behind family and friends who will remember his days marching and teaching in drum and bugle corps, starring in "Bye Bye Birdie" at Custer High, and keeping in contact with so many people who touched his life.

As a physician, Scott was brilliant, highly respected, and loved by his fellow medical providers and patients for his compassion, care and sharp wit.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Scott on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 9:30am, at Three Holy Women Parish - Holy Rosary Church, 2011 North Oakland Avenue, Milwaukee. A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will precede the Mass at the church from 8:30am until the Mass time at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Scott's memory to the foundation he established to help other transplant patients: In Your Corner, 8104 Ortin Lane, Raleigh, NC 27612.
