Richard "Dick" Konop Obituary

Konop, Richard "Dick" L.

Dick was born to eternal life at his Sussex home surrounded by family October 22, 2023, one day before his 67th birthday.

Born to life in Milwaukee son of Louis and Agnes (nee Zajdel) Konop.  Beloved husband and best friend of Anne (nee Stamm) for 39 years.

After finishing college at UW-Oshkosh with teaching and computer science degrees, Dick went on to teach in Antigo School district for one year.  His teaching career, however short, led to some lifetime friendships and many great stories about his time as the girl’s tennis coach.

Dick left teaching and went to work for Radio Shack as an Educator for a year and then on to Logical Systems Inc. for five years as a Programmer/Analyst.  Dick worked on one of the first computer operating systems for the Tandy personal computer around the same time MS Windows was developed.

After Logical Systems was sold, Dick then began a lifelong career focused on ATM and Debit Card Processing for banks and merchants.  He worked at Deluxe Data Systems for five years and then moved to M&I Data Systems/Metavante which was later acquired by FIS Inc.  He developed an in-house system for computer code tracking and version control at Deluxe that is still being used today.  As a senior systems analyst, Dick was a well-respected expert and became a mentor to many new employees.  He was one of a limited number of employees who were trusted with the security encryption keys to the system.

Dick’s favorite spectator sport was horse racing which he became interested in as a teenager.  Everyone knew that the days of the Triple Crown and the Breeders Cup races were true holidays to Dick.  Dick enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Brewers.  He and Anne also went to Badger football games with good friends for over 20 years.  He enjoyed Bowling, Golfing, Traveling and Cruising.

Dick was a member of St. Mary Mother of God Parish in Menomonee Falls for most of his life after he and Anne were married there.  His faith grew stronger over the years and prayer and attending mass were very important to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes (nee Zajdel), father Louis, brother Robert "Bob" and three brothers-in-law Dennis Orth, Michael Poliskie and Al Warburton.

He is survived by his wife, Anne; sisters Jean Warburton, Judy Poliskie and Mary Orth-Thomas, sister -in-law Susan Konop, brothers-in-law Tony Stamm, Eric Stamm and Gary Thomas as well as his 11 nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Dick.”
