Matthew Edward Kurtz
Matt was born on October 16, 1975, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to James (deceased) and Kathleen Kurtz (nee Zajc). He was born to eternal life on July 17, 2021, in Phoenix, Arizona. Matt grew up in Milwaukee and was an alumnus of Mother of Good Counsel grade school, Marquette University High School, and Milwaukee Area Technical College. He eventually became a Master Technician/Mechanic.
Matt is survived by his loving ex-wife Amy and his two amazing children, son Gavin, age 18, and daughter Madelyn, age 10. Matt deeply loved and was tremendously proud of his children. He was thrilled at Gavin's recent graduation from Brophy Catholic High School and acceptance as a freshman at Arizona State University and Madelyn's continued attendance at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Grade School in Arizona. Matt was a long serving President of the St. Thomas Aquinas Wildcat Dad's Club in Goodyear, Arizona where both Gavin and Madelyn attended Catholic grade school. Through the Wildcat Dads Club, Matt helped to organize Friday Fish Frys and many other events throughout the years to support St. Thomas Aquinas school and church. Amy was an active member of the Brophy Catholic High School Mothers Guild in Arizona.
Matt is also survived by his caring mother, Kathy, his sisters Beth, Jamie and Kerrie, his brother Joe Kurtz and Joe’s family (Alanah, Shareef and Sharise), all of whom appreciate the love and support of family and friends who knew Matt and are helping them honor his memory. Matt is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and dear friends throughout Wisconsin, Arizona, and across the country who loved him.
An avid outdoorsman, Matt’s love of hunting, camping, and riding his bike. Matt especially loved hunting and camping in Wisconsin and Arizona, and loved laughing, sharing stories, and creating memories with his family and friends during these special times. He also loved grilling and was a master of chicken thighs and rice.
Matt truly loved Arizona and built a life there for his family for nearly 20 years. At the time of his death, Matt worked as the manager at Leksfixit in Arizona and was planning to start a new business venture. Integrity was central to his work and he served as a mentor and friend to all who knew him for nearly 46 years. Everyone who knew Matt loved him. Though Matt’s funeral and burial services will take place in his hometown in Wisconsin, his family and many friends in Arizona are planning to have memorial services for him there as well. Details for services there will be forthcoming as they are finalized in the near term.
If you are looking for a way to help the family, we are humbly asking people to consider donating to one or both of two Go Fund Me accounts that have been set up to support the immediate and future needs of Matt’s family, including funeral expenses and his children’s education. Any amount at all is truly, deeply appreciated
