Her laugh was sacred music. Her smile was the one that launched a thousand rockets. Her hair glowed like the sun, her soft green eyes like a gentle meadow.
Her words filled us with perpetual hope, and her hugs made us whole. When she cooked, people gathered. When she gardened, people marveled. She was a daughter of Poland. She was home.
Our mother fought many adversities in life until God called her home far too soon. Her enormous inner strength and resolve kept her here with us for as long as she could. She possessed endless curiosity about the world- traveling, science, flowers, natural beauty, music. She especially loved visiting Poland and Ireland with her children. There were so many adventures we still wanted to have.
Mom attended St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee and worked to pay her own tuition. In the MATC culinary program, she met her lifelong friend, Karen Pfeiffer.
She was honored to serve the School Sisters of St. Francis at the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center for 20 years, where she gave every effort to make sure the sisters were comfortable and felt loved. She went on to serve fish fry at the Basilica, the students of St. Matthias and the patients of West Allis Memorial Hospital, all together for a total of 47 years of hard work in service to others- the primordial Christian virtue.
Above all, Mom was mom, wife, grandma, sister, aunt and dear friend. For many years, she prayed for the miracle of grandchildren, and, in the end, caring for God’s three little beautiful gifts sustained her. We miss you, Mom, like the sun misses the flowers in the depths of winter. But you always told us that you will be with us forever, and we know it.
Mom is survived by her husband of 34 years, James Peter; her children, Taylor Christine (Michael Ray) Schlabach and Alexander James; her grandchildren, Pandora, Cameron and Charlotte; her brother James (Debra) Adamus; sisters-in-law Barbara Wry and Mary Agnes (Donald) Hoppe. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Stella Adamus and brother John Adamus. We know she rejoiced when she reunited with them. She also leaves behind some the greatest nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the world.
Mom was especially devoted to the Lord and the Virgin Mary. Mom wanted everyone to love their God and their fellow mankind. Rest in peace, Mom. We will love you forever.
A private Mass of celebration to be held at THE BASILICA OF SAINT JOSAPHAT.
