It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Marion Ann Huber (nee Sager), 91 years old, who was peacefully welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Marion was born on December 5, 1933, and lived her whole life in Milwaukee, WI. A devoted wife to Erwin "Erv" Huber; loving mother to Linda (Matthias) Heidelberger and Jeff (Robin) Huber; proud grandma to Kenny (Luiza) Alvord, Kirsten, Emilie (Mark) Roth, Alena, Lauryn and Colin; great grandma to Finley, Lily and Kenny. She was the precious daughter of Merlyn and Mabel Sager and the second youngest of six children: Don, Ken, Lorraine, Arlene and George.
Marion was the life of every party. If you knew her, you knew how she lived her life to the very fullest. The radiating joy and contagious energy she brought to every room made everyone around her feel special. Her zest for life was unparalleled, and those who knew her couldn’t help but be drawn to her vibrant spirit. Growing up in the lively Sager household, she was surrounded by laughter, playful pranks and a bond with her siblings that lasted a lifetime. The stories and memories of their childhoods continued to live on through the generations, as Marion and her siblings passed down not only their shared experiences, but their love of life, humor and close-knit family. As the last of the six siblings, we take comfort knowing they are all reunited in Heaven, where they eagerly awaited her arrival.
Marion married the love of her life Erv Huber in 1954 and together they were blessed with two children, Linda and Jeff. Throughout her life, Marion embraced many roles with pride and enthusiasm: from a soda jerk, working on the production line at Allen Bradley, to a florist at Blumm’s Floral and Kohl’s Department Store employee, a ski instructor, but most importantly, a devoted grandmother. She and Erv were passionate skiers and instructors, instilling a love for the sport in their children at Crystal Ridge and Alpine Valley. Marion cherished the time spent camping at Long Lake with the Konrath’s and in Door County with the firemen. She was well known for her eccentric hat collection, which made an appearance at every family gathering: weddings, birthdays and holiday celebrations. Her creativity showed through the beautiful bows and wreaths she lovingly crafted, filling her home with holiday cheer. A lover of music, Marion could often be found listening to Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, the Rat Pack and Patsy Cline. She was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, never missing a game and had a habit of making an appearance on the Jumbotron at Milwaukee Brewers games. Marion enjoyed the company of her ‘Golden Girls’ – Dorothy, Mary, Goodie, Shirley and Audrey – and could always be found savoring cheese pizza at Balistreri’s, served by her favorite waiter, Antonio. Above all, Marion held dear the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren, and especially when Alena and Colin visited from Germany. For Marion, time spent with loved ones was the greatest gift of all.
Marion was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in early 2023, a diagnosis that brought great challenge to her and her family. As the disease progressed, it gradually dimmed the vibrant zest and joy for life that once defined her. Her light began to dim, her wit and humor became less frequent, yet the heart of who she was – her warmth, her nurturing spirit as a mother to many, and her boundless compassion – remained a constant presence in our lives despite her illness.
In her final days, we gathered at Marion’s bedside, unsure of how much time we would have to share with her. But within a span of 48 hours, Marion awakened seven times, and to our surprise, engaged with us in conversation. In those precious moments, we were gifted with a glimpse of that same vibrant spirit and unyielding zest for life which we had not seen since prior to her diagnosis.
Marion was supported, loved and cherished until the very last second when she was called home to be with Jesus. She lived her life to the very fullest with the compassion and abundant love of her son Jeff; the angels of her daughter Linda and husband Erv; her grandkids and great grandkids; the Sager Clan; the Golden Girls/Club; her friends of Crystal Ridge and Alpine Valley; and countless other close friends.
Special Thank You to all the nurses who cared for Marion at Froedtert Hospital: Claire, Leanne, and Ferdie. The impact she made on all who knew her is immeasurable, yet the void her absence leaves is profound. While we mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing this is not a goodbye, but simply put in her words “I’ll see you soon”.
Please join us in celebrating her life and legacy Saturday, January 18, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 12130 West Center Street, Wauwatosa, WI 53222.
