Marcella Patricia Basta
Born to life on January 30, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Stephen Zylka and Valentina (nee Konieczny) Zylka, Marcella was born to eternal life on May 18, 2021 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital at age 90 years old. Marcella was the beloved "sweetie" wife for over 50 years prior to the passing of her late husband, Kenneth A. Basta. She was blessed with three loving children, Kenneth J. (Christine) Basta, Richard (Marsha) Basta and Mary (Dale) Kucharski; six cherished grandchildren Brianna (Tyler) Shernell, Benjamin (Trina) Basta, Andrew Kucharski, Sarah Kucharski, William Basta and Grace Basta; and she was soon to be a great-grandmother to baby Shernell, due in a few months. She is further survived by her brother Arthur (the late Elizabeth "Betty") Zylka and sister Rosemary (the late Gerald) Czerwinski, other relatives and friends. In addition to be predeceased by her parents, Marcella was also predeceased by her siblings George (Margaret) Zylka, Roman (Congetta "Connie") Zylka, Henry (MaryAnn) Zylka and Norbert (Judith) Zylka.
Marcella was an avid reader, many times finishing a book in one day. This love of reading may have been fostered years ago when she worked as a librarian in a bookmobile. Her last working position prior to retiring was at St. Anne's Home for the Elderly, where she worked in the kitchen. It was only a natural for Marcella to work in a kitchen, since she was known for her baking. Her broken glass torte at Easter, chocolate chip cheese cake, blueberry torte and pretzel torte are just a few specialties that made mouths water.
Most important to Marcella was her devotion to her Catholic faith, especially to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Much like her husband Ken, Marcella will be dearly missed in this earthly existence, but all who mourn her passing know that God has called this faithful servant home to Heaven.
Visitation will be held for Marcella on Saturday, May 22, 2021, from 9:00am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am, all at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 8200 West Denver Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53223. Entombment next to her husband Ken will follow the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"May she rest in peace. Amen"
