Kathleen Grace Corry ("Kate") died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 26, 2022, at the age of 72.
Born in Marinette, Wisconsin and raised on the east side in Milwaukee, Kate was the fourth of eight children of attorney Matthew Corry and educator Helen Patricia Murphy Corry.
Kate is survived by her devoted sons Sean Smith and Jeb Smith (Emily Carr Smith); by her loving siblings Michael Corry, Jane Corry, Mary Corry Maroney, Dan Corry, Sean Corry, Kevin Corry, and Lisa Corry; and by many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She is predeceased by her beloved son Sam Smith, ex-husband Bill Smith, and both parents.
Along with all of her siblings, Kate graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School. She attended Divine Savior High School in Milwaukee and Catholic Central High School in Marinette. Kate received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where her academic excellence was recognized with an invitation to Phi Beta Kappa. She subsequently enjoyed a DuPont Fellowship in Art History at the University of Virginia.
Kate's working life was diverse, from a proud assembly line worker at American Motors to a teacher and advocate for special needs children, which she found most rewarding. Kate's advocacy in Rhode Island resulted in gaining insurance coverage for the special protein formula needed to sustain health for those with PKU (phenylketonuria disease).
From a family of individuals, Kate stood out as truly unique. Her keen intelligence and interest in others made her a great conversationalist, quickly cutting to the core of any subject and making people feel special and heard. Her appreciation and insight into the arts, be it the visual arts, architecture, literature, or music, was inspirational. Her smile and quick wit, sometimes with a sharp edge, are remembered by many. Even through the hardest of times, her dignity and graciousness were unshakable. Kate will be keenly missed by all who knew her.
