Joan Marie (Kunka) O'Rourke

Joan Marie O’Rourke

(nee Kunka) Born to Life June 25, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Bernard and Victoria Kunka, Joan was Born to Eternal Life on September 10, 2022, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at age 93 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John “Jack” O'Rourke.

Joan was the salutatorian of her high school graduating class. After school, she worked in financing for Old Kent Bank in Chicago. She married the love of her life, Jack O'Rourke, and they raised their family with a catholic presence in a loving and caring home. Joan most cherished her time with her family. She gave life to forty-three direct descendants, equally proud of each and every one.

Joan is the beloved mother of Cathy (Joe) Uhrich, the late Mary Joan O'Rourke, Dan (Marilyn) O'Rourke, Jack (Maureen) O’Rourke and Patrice (Tom) Linn. She is the loving grandmother of Liz Uhrich (Brian Bailey), Steve (Katharine) Uhrich, Joanie (Brian) Ahmer, Kathryn O'Rourke, Dan O'Rourke, Patrick (Lauren) O'Rourke, Michael O'Rourke, Jim (Tamara) O'Rourke, Jack (Carly) O’Rourke, Eryn (Jack) Love, Fr. Andrew Linn, Emily Linn (Patrick, div) McElwee, Ted (Lindsay) Linn, Maria (Cooper) Johnston, Eddie (Emily Rose) Linn, Teresa Linn and George (Colette) Linn. Joan is the cherished great-grandmother of Raymond August Uhrich, Sylvia Marie Uhrich, Conrad Joseph Uhrich, Mabel Irene Uhrich, Riley Joan Ahmer, Owen Ronald Ahmer, Logan Elizabeth O'Rourke, Norah Ann O'Rourke, Claire Elizabeth O'Rourke, James Joseph O'Rourke, Keelin Althea O'Rourke, John Killian O'Rourke, Thomas Logan O’Rourke, Sunny Rose O’Rourke, Luna Mae Love, Hugh Francis McElwee, Lawrence Clair McElwee, Thomas Augustine Johnston, Marie Bernadette Johnston, Philip Joseph Johnston, Rose Marie Linn and “Baby Boy” Linn due this October. She is the fond sister of Bernie (Dee) Kunka and the late John (Jane) Kunka. Joan is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held for Joan in Milwaukee on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 4:00pm until the time of the vigil service at 7:00pm, all at St. Robert Catholic Church, 2224 East Capitol Drive, Shorewood, Wisconsin. Additional visitation will be held for Joan in Chicago on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 3:30pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 10:00am until 10:45am, all at Curley Funeral Home, 6116 West 111th Street, Chicago Ridge, Illinois. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on October 1, 2022, at 11:30am at St. Alexander Catholic Church, 7025 West 126th Street, Palos Heights, Illinois, grandson Fr. Andrew Linn, celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.
