James William "Jim" Fix
James W. Fix passed on to eternal life on December 7, 2022, due to complications from cancer. He was 87 years old. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Irene, and brother Fr. Tom Fix, SCJ. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Georgia (nee Heiser), and their seven children including Mary Kaye (the late Stephen) Cripe, Beth (David) Hoover, Julie (Scott) Coghill, Lynn (Michael) Toth, John (Jana) Fix, Christine (Paul) Hancock and Michael (Theresa) Fix and brother George (Nancy) Fix. In addition, “Grandpa/Papa” is lovingly remembered by 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as a niece, nephews, and friends.
Natives of Milwaukee, Jim and Georgia raised their family on the city’s northwest side, later moving to Menomonee Falls. A fierce defender of faith and education, the family found deep roots in the Roman Catholic tradition at St. Margaret Mary Parish and School and, later, at St. Dominic Parish. The Fix girls are graduates of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and the boys of Marquette University High School. All attended college. Jim put himself through college even with a home full of children.
Jim was a career man with the A.O. Smith Corporation for 42 years, retiring as manager of the company’s risk management and insurance functions. Wherever he was, however, his heart was usually outdoors. He was an avid golfer, boater, and fisherman who took pride in his home. Jim loved spending time with Georgia at their summer home up north near Minocqua, where they enjoyed frequent visits from family and friends. Jim lived up to his name, always taking on the challenge to fix things. Over the years he was a devoted hospital volunteer, Eucharistic minister, coach, and scout leader, as well as an avid bowler, card player, and sports fan.
While he would graciously answer questions about himself, Jim much preferred to focus on the other person, always showing a keen interest in and deep respect for others. He loved entertaining family and friends with his jokes and humorous antics, bringing a smile to everyone who knew him. Jim will be dearly missed.
Special thank you to Dr. Alqwasmi and his staff at the Froedtert Cancer Center of Menomonee Falls, as well as the staff and volunteers at Prohealth Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, where he spent his last days in a beautiful environment with kind and very capable care. His family is forever grateful.
A memorial visitation will be held for Jim on Saturday December 17, 2022, from 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10:30am, all at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 18255 W. Capitol Dr., Brookfield. Private Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery.
