Ilene Retzlaff Obituary

Ilene Frances Retzlaff

(nee Meloy) age 85 years, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, was welcomed into God’s loving arms on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Mission Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care.  Ilene was born on October 15, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Retzlaff, her parents Vincent and Angeline (nee Fox) Meloy, her sister Jean (the late Don) Aberdeen and her two brothers Dennis Meloy and Kenneth Meloy.

Ilene married Arthur on October 22, 1955.  They enjoyed 49 years of marriage together before Arthur found eternal peace on December 8, 2004.

Ilene was the “sunshine” in the room.  She loved jigsaw puzzles, sewing, crafts, baking, music, reading, playing the piano, live theater and helping others.  Her first job was at Schlitz Brewery.  She was a stay at home mom for many years.  During that time, she was active in the Christian Mother’s Society at Corpus Christi Parish in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  She also worked for decades as a head cashier at Kohl’s Food Store. Many of her retirement years were spent in Theresa and Mayville, Wisconsin.

Ilene is survived by her children;  Kathy (Vic) Kornis, Jerry (Kathy), Carol Skowronski, Jane Seeley, David (Beate), grandchildren; Matthew (Elena) Kornis, Brian (Amy) Kornis, Jacob, Lauren (James) Snifka, Tina-Marie, Brittany (Kenny) Hall and Gregory Jasinski;  great grandchildren;  Elinor, Sean-Luca, William, Violet, Henry and Arya, sisters; Maryann (the late Ken) Wheeler, Patsy (the late Jim) Quinn, and Katie (the late Ron) Hoth and sisters-in-law; Patricia (the late Dennis) Meloy, Sharon (the late Kenneth) Meloy, Audrey (the late Rob) Locander and Dorothy (Bob) Luebben, along with many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives and many very special friends.  Ilene is also survived by her cat, Autumn, who is now living with Carol.

Per Ilene’s request and due to the limitations of COVID-19, the family has chosen to hold a small private service for the immediate family at St Charles Parish Cemetery Columbarium in Hartland, Wisconsin.

Ilene was always a supporter of animals, so, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Wisconsin Humane Society (4500 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53208).
