Geraldine "Gerrie" Ann Hickey
(nee Schmitt) Was surrounded by family when she was born to eternal life on April 1, 2026, at age 96. Loving wife of the late John M. Hickey, Sr. Devoted mother of Mary Bridget (Michael) Zander, John Michael (Julie) Hickey, Ann (Michael) Schroeder, Thomas (Susan) Hickey, Kerry (Patrick) Hodan, Julie (Dave) Hickey-Bennett and David (Jane) Hickey. Cherished grandmother of Carolyn, Sarah & Rachel Zander; Jack, Sean & Joseph Hickey; Catherine & Michael Schroeder; Tommy & Danny Hickey; Patrick, Bridget & Colleen Hodan; Peter, Moira & Maggie Brown; and Julia, Clara & Molly Hickey. Further survived by 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her mother, Irene Schmitt, her dear aunts Mary McCann & Margaret Cook, sister Mary (Richard) Wittmann, brother Thomas (Marianne) Schmitt, and brothers-in-law Rev. Joseph Hickey & Rev. Thomas Hickey.
Gerrie was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas grade school, Cathedral High School, St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Mount Mary University. A proud Irish Catholic, Gerrie was fiercely dedicated to her husband and children. As a mother of seven, Gerrie said she had “no time for trouble,” yet she always found time to make each of her children feel special. Gerrie was a foodie and her happy place was cooking meals, baking pies, and hosting epic family gatherings at the Hickey house, a special time for all guests. She always made sure no relatives were left behind. An avid reader of the New York Times, Gerrie eagerly shared her opinions about current events, usually with a “twinkle in her eye.” Gerrie also was a talented writer. We will always remember and cherish the thoughtful notes she sent at important milestones and critical times in our lives. After many years of caring for others, Gerrie enjoyed her final years being cared for by her loving children. She will be missed dearly by all.
Visitation will be held for Gerrie on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at St. John Vianney Church, 1755 N. Calhoun Rd., Brookfield from 9:30am until the eulogies at 10:45am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joan Antida High School.
