Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the age of 88. Paul was born on February 14, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Francis D. Misner and Madge Mee Misner. He is survived by his beloved daughter Danielle Ruddock (Adrian), granddaughters Isabella and Sophia, his dear friend and former wife Constance J. Misner, his brother John Misner (Patricia), Joseph Misner, one niece, and three nephews.
Paul was a theological scholar who earned his Doctor of Theology from the University of Munich in 1969. He was a Fullbright Fellow twice (1975-76 & 1985-86) and a Bradley Fellow (1988). Paul was a professor Emeritus at Marquette University in the Department of Theology from 1979 until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his 50-year career, Paul authored and edited a series of historical books, including his latest works, "Catholic Labor Movements in Europe" and "Social Catholicism in Europe." He also contributed to numerous articles, professional journals, and books. In July 2021, Paul was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award as a leader in the field of Theology.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 1937 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53212. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Marquette University Theology Department or St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Milwaukee.
