Barbara Jean Novak
Born to eternal life February 15, 2018. Born to life Nov. 10, 1935 in Hammond, Indiana, the only child of Joseph and Bernice Novak. Alter high school she joined the Franciscan Community in Mishawaka, Indiana. In religious life, (Sister Edith Marie) taught first grade. Barbara left the Franciscans in 1970 and moved to Wisconsin. She taught first grade at Hales Corners Elementary and Edgerton Schools for 25 years. In 1995 Barbara retired to care for her mother, and then became very active in her church.
She is survived by an aunt, Rosemary Block of Schererville, Indiana, other relatives and cousins, especially Ken Whitener, Jr. of Chicago, friends, especially Jeanne and Richard Yagodinski, Nancy Richter, Susan Kuhlenbeck, Judy Smith and Fr. Michael Strachota.
Visitation Thursday, Feb. 22 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 120 Nashotah Road, Nashotah, from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment Pinelawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee.
