Alphonse A. Wisniewski, DDS

1930 – 2026

Alphonse A. Wisniewski passed away on June 21, 2026, on Father's Day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boleslaw and Julia; his siblings Edmund, Sophie, Joanna "Jane", Charles, Boleslaw "Bill", Evelyn and Adrian; his beloved wife Clare Marie (Slupinski) and their children Jane and Daniel; his second wife Ruth (Dieringer); and several nieces, nephews, and a grandniece.

He is survived by his children Julie (Dave Koberstein), Jack (Mary Beth), and Kate (Ken Szallai), and by many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Al was born on March 26, 1930, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He attended St. Hyacinth’s (St. Jack’s) grade school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from South Division High School in 1948. He earned his undergraduate degree from Marquette University in 1952 and his D.D.S. from Marquette School of Dentistry in 1955.

After dental school, Al proudly served two years in the United States Army as a Captain, stationed in Seattle, Washington. Al would often proclaim: “They didn’t take Seattle, did they!” He returned to Milwaukee in 1957 with his wife Clare and their first child, Julie.

Al quickly joined his brother Dr. Charles in a thriving dental practice at 15th and Mitchell, where they worked for over 20 years, along with their brother Bill, a talented dental lab technician. Around 1987, Al opened a dental office in the St. Luke’s Health Science Offices Condominium attached to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he and his trusted colleague Dr. Thomas Kielma cared for patients until Al’s retirement.

Al was a charter member of the Marquette University Blue and Gold Club, named Marquette Dental Alumni of the Year in 1982 and served on the Marquette University President’s Council Executive Committee from 1980 to 1987. His commitment to community was unwavering, whether organizing charitable events or helping to open the Madre Angela Dental Clinic on Milwaukee’s South Side in 2000 to serve the underprivileged.

In 2005, at the close of his professional career, Al was deeply honored and humbled to receive the Madre Angela Dental Clinic “Angel Award,” recognizing his “exceptional dedication, commitment, and excellence in serving those in need in our Milwaukee community.”

Al had many friends and passions. He loved traveling with Clare and their children. He had a sharp sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a deep appreciation for the joys of life. He loved tennis, golf, music, dancing, movies, the theatre, and cheering on the Bucks and the Warriors.

Despite his busy schedule, he always made time for his family. He helped with homework, attended recitals, plays, and sporting events, and celebrated every milestone. He was always there, our biggest fan, encouraging us to do the best we could with the tools we had.

Dad, thank you for everything. We couldn’t have hoped for a better father. We love you so much. Until we meet again….
