Willie Earl Nabors (a.k.a. "Long Shot Willie") was born on July 17, 1929 to the union of Theodore and Willie Mae Nabors in Okolona, Mississippi. He received his formal education at Okolona Public School and furthered his education at Okolona College. As a young man, he worked as a delivery boy for Graham Grocery Store, where he delivered groceries on his bicycle. One day, on his way to make a delivery, he met the love of his life, Glen Dora Harris. Willie and Glen Dora were united in holy matrimony on July 26, 1949 and they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin shortly after. Their union was blessed with four children, Shirley, Lee, Glenda and Michael.
Willie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and he attended Calvary Baptist Church in Okolona. His Christian walk continued in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy B. Nabors. His Wisconsin work career began as a meat packer at Cudahy Packing House and continued at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he worked for twenty years until his retirement. Willie was a dedicated worker who loved life, so after a short time of retirement he decided to go back to work as a security guard at Cudahy Towers with his son, Michael. Willie eventually retired to enjoy the fruits of his labor with Glen Dora by traveling, watching horse and dog races, and spending quality time with family and friends.
God called Willie Earl home to rest on Friday, October 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Nabors; mother, Willie Mae Nabors; wife, Glen Dora Nabors; daughter Shirley Nabors; son, Lee Nabors; and grandson, Angelo Perkins. He leaves to cherish his memory: his sister-in-law, Melba Burton; his son, Michael (Kim) Nabors; his daughter, Glenda Nabors; his grandchildren, Jerry (Nina) Johnson II, Andre Nabors, Shea Coleman and Michael Coleman; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
