Robert Charles Abresch "Bob"

Passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017 at Luther Manor in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at the age of 95 years. Bob is the loving husband for nearly 70 years of Marjorie; the beloved father of Jeff (Mary) Abresch, Dave (Chris) Abresch, Rick (Deb) Abresch and Lynn Davis; and the proud grandfather of Daniel, Nick, Jackson, Cori and Kelly and great-grandfather of Gabriel and Bruno. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Born October 29, 1921, to Charles and Elsa Abresch, Bob graduated from Riverside High School in 1938. His first job was as a bicycle messenger for Western Union. He loved to bicycle throughout his life. Later he worked at Allis-Chalmers as a contract administrator for the Hydro-generator division, a career that lasted 40+ years.

He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps where he served in the 398th Bomb Group, 600 Squadron, 1st Division, 8th Air Force stationed in England. He piloted a B-17 bomber and flew 33 combat missions in World War II. He always had a love of airplanes and was an award-winning model airplane flyer and a long-time member of the Experimental Airplane Association and of the 8th Air Force National Historical Society.

Bob met the love of his life Marjorie Ann Schmidt at a dance at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee, and they married on October 30, 1948. As a couple they were members of a Latinaire dance club and became accomplished ballroom dancers. He received an award for the many blood donations he gave over the years. He volunteered 10+ years as a driver for the Elmbrook Senior Taxi Service and was a long-time member and usher at Elm Grove Lutheran Church.

A Memorial Gathering for Bob will held on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11am, all at the Luther Manor Faith and Education Center, 4545 North 92nd Street, Wauwatosa. A reception will immediately follow the service at Luther Manor. Private interment of Bob's cremains will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park at a later time.
