Merphis Lee Slocum

Born March 3, 1948, to the union of Percy and Lessie Blalock Slocum in Carthage, Mississippi. Later in the 1960's, Merphis and his parents moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he received his education at North Division High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. Merphis passed away very suddenly on April 14, 2019, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Merphis enjoyed buying scratch off tickets, eating, sleeping, and spending time with family.

Merphis is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lessie Slocum, and four brothers and two sisters: William Slocum, Wilbert Slocum, James Slocum, Percy Slocum Jr., Addie Dixon, and Delois Slocum Jackson. He is also preceded in death by two nephews and two nieces: Mark Slocum, James Slocum, Yvette Moses, and Lou-Gina Gregory. He leaves to cherish his  memory three sisters: Eva (Lonnie) Jefferson, Shirley Slocum, and Bobbie I. Baker. Merphis also leaves behind a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held for Merphis on Monday, April 22, 2019, from 10:00am until the time of services at 11:00am, followed by military honors, all at Jelacic Funeral Home, 5639 West Hampton Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53218. Burial will be private at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin.
