George Edward Newkirk
Born to life on December 22, 1924, in Mauston, Wisconsin, the son of William and Elizabeth Newkirk, George Edward Newkirk was born to eternal life on May 10, 2018 at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at the age of 93 years. George was the beloved husband for 65 years of Maureen (nee Kennedy) Newkirk and the dear father of Michael (Rosalie) Newkirk, John Newkirk, Mary (Aaron) Newkirk, Kenneth (Patti) Newkirk, the late Daniel Newkirk and the late Susan Newkirk. He was the fond grandfather of Michael and Elizabeth and the great-grandfather of Dominic, Salvatore, Rocco, Romeo, Faith and Hope. George is further survived by loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held for George on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 9:30am until the time of Mass at 11:00am, all at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, 7152 North 41st Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53209. Burial with military honors will follow the Mass at 12:30pm at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7301 West Nash Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53210, please meet at the cemetery offices.
George was a proud US Army World War II veteran, earning the Bronze Star during his service time. He was the founding owner/operator of Newkirk's Service Station located at west Villard Avenue and north Hopkins Street in Milwaukee and also was a past owner of the Dog 'N Suds drive-in restaurant on north Sherman Boulevard in Milwaukee. He was a proud and active member of the North Milwaukee Lions Club prior to it's dissolution.
