I remember Jerry as a quiet, forceful, respectful person. He was salutatorian in my high school class at St. Bonaventure High School, Sturtevant, Wisconsin. As it turned out, I was valedictorian, but only because Jerry kept me working as hard as I could to stay a fraction of a grade point ahead of him. I was competitive, and I didn't realize at the time that Jerry was simply being Jerry--a quiet, hard-working, steady learner.  As years passed after graduation, we separated ways. I heard of Jerry's activities and difficulties as the years went by.  We communicated recently, and I told him how much I respected him.  I came to realize that Jerry was following the path of St. Francis, and ultimately, Jesus, in the way he conducted his life. I admired him for the man he was--he set an example for all of us, by his quiet actions and activism. It was my honor to have known him.  May Jerry rest in the arms of the Lord forever. Your fellow student, John Lucas
